Introduction

Window View is an open-source browser experiment for previewing a simulated outlook from a selected surface on a building in a 3D globe. A user navigates to a building, places and sizes a virtual window, enters a first-person room view, and can display a sun-path overlay. The selected window, camera angle, and overlay state can be encoded in the URL for bookmarking or sharing. The project uses Cesium Ion and Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles; it does not provide a surveyed, current, unit-certified, or legally reliable view.

What Window View does

The author's repository documents globe navigation, building-surface selection, window dimensions, first-person movement, field-of-view controls, sun-path visualization, and shareable URLs. The hosted GitHub Pages application makes the prototype available without a local installation. Its source is published under an MIT license, while locally running the project requires a Cesium Ion token with access to the relevant 3D tile asset.

The result depends on tile coverage, capture date, model geometry, texture quality, camera placement, selected elevation, orientation, field of view, terrain, neighboring structures, vegetation, weather, and future development. A clicked building wall is not proof of a unit's exact floor, window center, sill height, glazing dimensions, balcony, interior position, or line of sight. The sun overlay is a visualization and does not account for every obstruction, reflection, seasonal condition, or local daylight metric.

Who it is for

Window View may help buyers, renters, agents, designers, and developers perform an early visual check or prepare questions before a visit. It is not a viewing, survey, measured drawing, rights-of-light analysis, daylight or sunlight assessment, planning model, verified photography, valuation, appraisal, disclosure, environmental report, or guarantee that a view will remain available.

What to verify before adopting

Confirm the exact address, building, unit, floor, facade, orientation, window, balcony, and camera height against plans and an in-person visit. Compare the simulation with dated listing photographs, current street and aerial imagery, approved neighboring developments, zoning records, and a qualified daylight or view study when material. Review URL sharing before disclosing a residence or search. For local deployment, assess the code, dependencies, Cesium and Google license terms, token restrictions, quotas, attribution, browser compatibility, privacy, and maintenance status. Do not infer property value or make a lease or purchase decision from the visualization alone. PropAIdir has not independently tested Window View or reproduced author claims about exactness, sunlight, 3D coverage, model accuracy, availability, browser performance, or suitability for a property decision.
